One Down, One to Go!!! Governor Signs Initiative Bill

Today Governor Brad Henry signed Senate Bill 800 into law!! This gets Oklahoma one step closer to having an accessible ballot initiative process. Now there is only one initiative reform bill waiting to be signed, House Bill 2246. Let’s keep calling and emailing the Governor to make sure he signs HB 2246.

Oklahomans want an accessible ballot initiative process. The legislature heard us and passed SB 800, SJR 13, and HB 2246 by wide bi-partisan margins. It looks like Gov. Brad Henry heard at least part of our message and signed SB 800 today.

House Bill 2246, which will expand the restrictive 90 day period to gather signatures to one year, still hasn’t been signed by the Governor. This change is vitally needed to give regular Oklahomans a voice in government. The bill also creates a task force to study ways to further reform the process.

Oklahoma needs the Governor to sign HB 2246. Pick up the phone right now and call the Governor’s office at (405) 521-2342. You can also email the governor by clicking here.
